A boo-boo kit is a small, portable first aid kit designed to handle minor injuries like cuts, scrapes, and bruises. It’s often curated for convenience and quick care, particularly for families, outdoor activities, or personal use. I keep one in my Every Day Carry (EDC) kit, my Get Home Bag, and all the cars.
A boo-boo kit isn’t a trauma kit. It’s for treating the symptoms of everyday annoyances that might keep you from performing at peak levels. Additionally, the rapid application of some of the contents, e.g. antiseptics, mole skin, etc., might prevent some of the ailments from exasperating into a more serious issue.
Contents
- Adhesive bandages in various sizes
- Antiseptic wipes or alcohol swabs for cleaning wounds
- Antibiotic ointment (like Neosporin) to prevent infection
- Sterile gauze pads for larger cuts or scrapes
- Medical tape to secure gauze or dressings
- Tweezers for removing splinters or debris
- Cold packs (instant-activation packs for soothing bumps or bruises)
- Soothing gel or spray (like aloe vera or burn spray for minor burns)
- Pain relief (single-use packets of ibuprofen or acetaminophen)
- Small scissors for cutting tape or bandages
- Respiratory Relief drugs like diphenhydramine HCL or pseudoephedrine HCl
- Gastro-Intestinal Relief drugs like anti-dirreahal and antacids
One of the things I attempt to do is have a bit of congruence between all of my boo-boo kits. While this is vital in a trauma kit where seconds matter. It can be a bit calming to open any boo-boo kit and know exactly what’s what and what’s where.
These kits are designed to be used. Especially the EDC kits. Unfortunately this means that it is likely that the supplies become depleted. To help prevent the scenario where you use some items and forget to restock. I have a reminder set in my calendar to inventory and replenish the stock of the kits once a month. Making a habit of this is vital.
Finally, this is not a trauma kit or designed for sustained care. It’s kind of built around a 3 day supply. Your home, camping, or clinic kits would contain a bigger variety and deeper stock. If you’d like a copy of my inventory checklist you can download it here.
